Many people have chosen polypropylene camlock fittings because they work well for low-pressure suction. You can use them for firefighting pump hoses, IBC containers and many other needs that require a quick disconnect operation. However, you should make sure the couplings are black because they have higher chemical resistance to many corrosives and chemicals. While they may not be quite as durable as aluminum or stainless steel, they are still an excellent choice for a variety of needs.
Stainless Steel Arms/Pins
Most people wonder why these couplings aren’t made from 100 percent polypropylene. Regardless of the material you choose, the cam pins and arms are made of stainless steel because the poly material isn’t as strong as metal. Therefore, you may want to exercise caution when crimping or attaching the couplings.
Ease of Installation
The biggest issue people have is getting the threads lined up correctly, but with the quick-disconnect feature, you don’t have that issue. All you do is insert your adapter into the coupler, ensuring that they are the same size. Then, just close the handles, exerting the same pressure on both sides and closing them at the same time. The best part is that you don’t require any other tools than your hands to install them or remove them.
However, you should note that poly fittings shouldn’t be used with gas or compressed air. If you require high-pressure applications, you shouldn’t use poly plugs or dust caps, either.
Economical
Sometimes, camlocks can be highly expensive to buy, which doesn’t make sense when you consider their size and why they’re used. However, poly camlocks are inexpensive and can still work for a variety of applications. Therefore, you can purchase them and feel confident using them with any low-pressure application necessary. They’re also highly durable, which means you don’t have to replace them often.
