There are many different applications for ball valves, from plumbing to pharmaceuticals, and many different types of valve for different jobs. This can be confusing if you only know you need a ball valve but not the exact type. Here are just a few of the common types of PTFE ball valves and what they are used for:

1. Check Valves

Sometimes called a one way valve, check valves simply control the flow of liquid in one direction. Unlike brass or steel valves, alloy 20 ball valves are more resistant to acid, making them particularly useful in chemical manufacturing or any application that involves corrosive material.

2. Top Entry Ball Valve

Piping Guide has a thorough guide and illustration to this type of valve. Essentially, they allow easy access for assembly, disassembly, maintenance, repair, and sterilization. This means that there is no need to remove them from a pipe line, making them useful in plumbing or factories.

3. Stainless Steel Ball Valves

While many types and models of valve can fall under the stainless steel banner as it refers to the metal they are made from, they do differ greatly from other types of material. As mentioned above, they aren’t as resistant to corrosive material such as acid as the alloy 20 ball valves but they are much more durable and resistant than brass, which tends to be the cheapest type of valve available. As such, stainless steel is generally preferred by all but hobbyists.

If you are unsure of which type of valve is right for your project, machine, or specific use, contact a supplier such as Authorized Parts who carry many types of valve and will be able to help you identify which one you need. No matter which type you end up using, ensure it is from a trusted supplier, a reliable name brand, and made from the sturdiest material possible.
